The Past Before Us

Director: Nathalie Teirlinck
With: Evelyne Brochu, Eriq Ebouaney, Zuri François, Johan Leysen, Arieh Worthalter, Johan Heldenberg

Alice, a young reserved woman, leads a routine life of luxury call girl, avoiding any in-depth social contact. When she learns of her old boyfriend's death, the walls she erected around her begin to lick. She finds herself confronted with her son Robin, 6 years old, whom she abandoned shortly after birth. The child's eruption threatens his dearly acquired autonomy and exposes him to deeply buried emotions.

« The Past Before Us » deals with the deeply human conflict between the fear of intimacy and the universal desire for security. In this film, it is the mother-child relationship, where unconditional intimacy should go without saying, which exposes this conflict. What to do when you do not respond emotionally to the social norm? What is a blood link without shared past? Can love overcome fear?
